Dr. Alex Tavasoli is a chemical and materials engineer focused on ethical engineering practices and sustainable resource system design related to the energy transition.

She has over a decade of experience in clean technology development and is currently a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where her work involves a mix of carbon capture and utilization, ocean mining and modelling the social costs of the resource sector. She most recently ran Solistra, a research company developing solar-driven chemical reactors that efficiently recycle carbon dioxide into commodity chemicals normally sourced from fossil fuels. She is also the Board Chair of Iron & Earth, a non-for-profit organization with roots in the fossil fuel industry.

Dr. Tavasoli will leverage her research in CO2 capture and utilization, solar-driven catalysis and resource analysis to contribute to the development of solar devices and systems.
