Dr. Robert Godin, cluster co-lead, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at UBC Okanagan. He leads the Solar Energy Conversion and Spectroscopy group.

Dr. Godin’s SolarSpec research group, driven by his love of instrumentation and careful analyses, is working on advanced spectroscopy and microscopy techniques. The group’s goal is to gain a deeper understanding of how charge carries move within low cost, carbon-based materials that can capture sunlight. These materials, known as photocatalysts, use solar energy to create solar fuels. This knowledge allows the team to understand the limitations of photocatalytic systems and establish design and preparation guidelines for the next generation of high-efficiency materials. Dr. Godin’s work contributes to the broader goal of improving solar materials and devices.

Dr. Godin’s research interests include synthesis of carbon-based photocatalytic materials, sustainable energy production and sustainable photochemistry for chemical transformations.
